Casa Mar Lodge

Casa Mar FleetCasa Mar Lodge faces Laguna Agua Dulce (Sweet Water), a fresh lagoon where tarpon can often be seen rolling right from the dock. Enjoy the fabulous scenery on our 7 acres of tropical gardens and see a variety of fruit growing on the property, spectacular native flowers, a plethora of wild birds, and a beautiful display of orchids.

You have likely read about the fantastic angling at Casa Mar in outdoor magazines such as†Field & Stream, Sports Afield, Florida Sportsman, Saltwater Sportsman, and more.

Starting in January and running through May, tarpon can be found in large numbers in the Rio Colorado. Anglers have been known to hook as many as 30 in one day. The average tarpon weighs approximately 85 lbs., but can reach upward of 130 lbs. Landing these tarpon will be the highlight of your fishing trip.

TarponTarpon can be found not only in fresh water but also in saltwater, and at these times affords the angler the opportunity to fish these giants in the sheltered rivers and lagoons. During calm weather throughout the year and especially during the months of August through October, tarpon can be found in vast numbers just outside the mouth of the river in the Carribean Sea.

In December and January, snook, ranging in size from 3-12 lbs., invade the Rio Colorado. The fish are numerous and it is possible to catch dozens plus in a single day. If you are looking for really big snook, fishing in the surf during most of the year shouldn't disappoint you.

Once you've had your fill of battling snook and tarpon, fishing guapote, known as rainbow bass, machaca, and mojarra is an exciting alternative. When fished on light tackle, these gamesters are extremely sporting opponents.

Fishing Equipment†- Although most guests bring their own equipment, Casa Mar Lodge is well equipped to supply everyone with top-of-the-line fly rods, reels, and conventional gear. A well-supplied tackle ship is available on site for the purchase of line, terminal tackle, and more.

You are likely to see howler monkeys, crocodiles, spider monkeys, 1500 orchid species, tree frogs, caymens, exotically colored butterflies, white-faced capuchin monkeys, and sea turtles. The spectacular bird population provides for an amazing bird watching experience with osprey, great blue heron, white hawks, macaws, parrots, toucans, and much more.

Dinner is served family-style in the dining room and meals are home-cooked by our local chefs. At Casa Mar, we serve American food and local dishes, so you're guaranteed to find something you like.
